Photographic sequence for making and assembling a platter with a raised footring.

3 Kg of clay is centred and thrown out on a wide batt.

The clay is pulled out to a thickness of about 8mm at the base, with a thick coil at the edge.

A wobble is put into the rim of the platter, then the rim is thrown out.

The platter is finished off and a spiral put in with a kidney.

A coil of clay is attached to another batt.

This is thrown into a footring.

When leatherhard, the platter is stamped.

A soft chuck is made with fresh clay, then covered with clingfilm to prevent the platter sticking.

The edges of the platter are lightly turned and the base smoothed.

Both footring and platter are scored an slipped, then the footring attached.

The footring is pressed onto the platter and lightly thrown.

The finished platter.

The platter should be left to dry very very slowly.
